The pump systems are developed for viscous and highly viscous products. Solid ingredients in those products can usually be pumped without suffering damage. This can be seen in the cherries in the film below, as seen after pumping. The structure of the cherries is still clearly intact. "Thumb-sized" whole cherries, as well as pieces of apple and nuts, can be pumped.
